What a fantastic video - many thanks for posting. Hogan was often portrayed as a bit on the anti-social side, moody and aloof. This certainly does not come over here in this video. He actually seems to apologise for giving us an insight into his method. When God speaks - we listen - it's a sheer delight and a privelige Mr Hogan.

The two best golfers of all time--Tiger and Jack--use tons of leg drive. This is the problem with golf pro's nowadays. If you're a very handsy player with upper-body strength, you want little leg drive, like Arnold Palmer. If you're weak in the hands like Jack, you want tons of leg drive. Tiger is a mixture of both, however he is more toward the leg-drive swing in my opinion. The golf swing is not a "one size fits all" type of thing. And the swing hasn't changed in 100 years.

Ignore this attempt at instruction...This guy doesn't use his legs correctly... look at how he twists his hips to allow a backswing....that is not a reliable, repeatable movement....such a movement results in the straightening of the right leg...consequently altering dynamic posture or creating a reverse pivot... hence why the guy never looks to make a full shoulder turn as he would not be able to get back to the ball without coming over the top!

Before when I used a full swing I felt as If the club was really getting away from me and out of control.. now its within my control and I hit sweeter shots more often.. sacraficing a bit of distance for accuracy is more important I would say!

In order to get to transition properly, you have to slow the club down before the top of the swing to drop and accelerate THROUGH to the finish! These facts are never verbalized and confuse average golfers into achieving results that never last. You'll fight your swing forever if you think of hitting the ball or achieving positions.

Science or art! Breaking down swings without proper language for the average person viewing is dangerous. There are no "positions" in the golf "Swing"! Maybe start and a finish position! Positions are created when you stop it on a video. The "magic" in the golf swing is forgeting about the ball and swinging through! Just my 2 cents.

Some of you people are talking ludacrously, if Tiger Woods wasn't a good golfer he wouldn't be where he is today, irrelevant of his motion. I think it's brilliant, personally. But, realise this; no golf swing is incorrect if it is repeated every time. I personally find that's the key to becoming a decent golfer, being consecutive.

You nailed it right on the head! I think you're the greatest golf instructor! Great job! This instructor really knows what he is talking about. I think about 90% of beginners do this. And it prevents a full shoulder turn. If you just keep your weight in the back foot, as you turn, you'll automatically end up on your front foot. Thank you so much for your great video instructions!

It's true this am gets his club a wee bit inside during the the take away however the player did set the club in a good position at the top and his body is in a good position to deliver the club into impact properly. The instructor fails to tell the student that his the students lower body is not pivoting fast enough and that's the reason the club gets stuck behind. If you look at both the students and Adam Scott's impact position you'll see that.

I find that to acheive the correct backswing plane an early wrist cock will help stop the golf club from pulling to the inside in the backswing. At the top a slight unwinding of the lower body will help drop the club to the inside with some forearm rotation will help to hit a draw. I would reccomend downloading the v1 golf computer system for free to video your swing and gradually improve. Hope this helps

Awesome video. The only thing is, I think most amateurs have the opposite problem. They pull the club inside on the backswing, then come over the top on the downswing. This guy pulls it inside, then gets stuck coming down. My problem is like most amateurs. I can't seem to swing from the inside on the downswing, and it drives me nuts. I sometimes come over the top, resulting in the occasional pull-hook, but mostly I hit a fade that I can sometimes control, but occasionally turns into a big slice.

Showing me the plane with the lines actually drawn out was very helpful, it's easier to see what they mean about kepping it in like with you're body when you have something to compare to. That's where you get both power and accuracy--club stays on the right plane while all that force is being transferred up from the ground and out to the club, without the shoulders leading. When I was teaching, that was the #1 thing that was really hard to get across to most high-handicappers, because they do exactly the opposite--throw it from the shoulders down...hips & legs back, shoulders ahead. Man...the more I look at this, the better it looks. I mean, there have been lots of champion golfers with quirky swings, but this one gets better every year. The move from the top of his downswing to waist-high is as good as has ever been (a lot like the young Nicklaus, actually), and the way he stays behind it at impact, the way he unwinds from the ground up while keeping those shoulders back in the downswing...it's about as good as you're gonna see it.

he is right that tiger does not hit it straight all the time. and if you watch him play, when he's not on, or in a major, he usually hits a low cut driver or a 3 wood, he doesn't give these all out swings unless he's on. He doesn't hit as many fairways as some precision players, but his iron and fairway wood abilities are incomparable to anyone in history.

The guy misses a ton of fairways and everyone is still gaga about his swing... It is his short game that wins tournaments for him. Look at GIRs and other stats and you will see that this is the case. To compare his swing to Hogan's is an insult to Ben. Maybe he will get there some day but he ain't close yet. Then again, his short game is a world better than Hogan's ever was...

Tiger has added some of Hogan's traits to his swing now - I told a friend long ago that if he ever did that he will win the slam after it is "grooved" in which it is now. He will meet or past Nicklaus by next year. My favorite is Hogan, but Tiger's new changes are right up there, and actually Hogan would have rather had Snead's swing because his was developed and not natural like Snead's. Now that I am listening to your video I am hearing that you are aware of the three dimensions to square. Glue or tape a line level to the face of a practice club, paralell to the grooves. Practice keeping the club level in the three dimensions a little more before and a little after impact and the results can be really neat when you go to hit balls.

Something else I am noticing is your right knee on the backswing. Keeping the right knee still has really worked well for me and I think is something very simple someone can think about very close to tournament time and even during.

If that is working for you then stay with it. Some very good ball strikers like Hogan and Woods turn the hips to start things coming down. Personally I haven't really thought of doing that since I was a teenager. I guess the reason why I haven't been doing that recently is that when I do try it, it seems like my spine angle really gets bad and it feels like I am coming across the ball. When I figure it all out I'll let ya know :)

Well, my hips do slide toward the target a little at the start down, but it's not something I have ever tried to do. I mainly trust my body to do it's thing and focus on applying the club to the ball to create the desired outcome, in this case a very slight draw.

His left foot movement is really minimal and not a problem as long as his head is relatively still over the ball..I used to have this same movement when I was a young guy..I believe it allows for a bit more coil and reduces tension especially as you reach with the longer clubs. What I really like about Jack's swing is how upright his hands are at the top, which normally forces you to finish reaching for the sky...a classic golf swing that is simple and reliable!!

I might miss 2 fairways per round, but my hdcp is +2 (meaning on my best day I will score -2) not +9 or whatever Tiger's is. I simply can't chip and putt as well as he can. With so much information on the full swing and equipment technology, the only factor today is putting the ball in the hole.

The major change is his shift of weight. He does not get on his right side as much. He is mainly(about 80%) on his left side throughout the swing. He then bumps his hips and rotates around his hips. I have no idea how this guy is the #1 teacher in the world and did not even mention who else swings like this, Hogan. Looking at his old swing from 2001 and his new swing today, there is argument that his new swing is close to the stack and tilt but a modified stack and tilt. There is not much lateral movement from his lower body compared to 2001. Plus, he puts a little weight on his left side and his arms are in a lower position. This awesome swing.
